My Accomplishments

Most people know or have heard on me because of my famous work of La  geometrie, which includes my application of algebra to geometry which we now have Cartesian geometry. Also I made the transition from medieval science and philsophy to the modera era. Some of the works may have come from the earlier works of Oresme, but in his work there is no evidence of linking to geometry of alebra. My first major work is on physics, Le monde, ou Traiite de la Lumiere. It was near completion when I heard that Galileo was comdemed to house arrest. I wisely decided not to risk publication and the work was published, only in part, after his death. I did not want to publish  it but I did anyway. Then I made a science treatise Discours de la methode pour bien conduire sa raison et chercher la verite dans les sciences. Three appendices to this was Ladioptrique, Les Meteores, and La geometrie. They were published at Leiden in 1637. La Dioprique is a work on optics and in fact there is little new about it. My major contrubution to it was the experiment. It was very important. Les Meteores is a work on meteorology and is important in being the first work which I attempted to put the study of weather on a scientific basis. In 1641, I wrote Meditations on First Philosophy. It was designed for philosopher and the theologian. There are six meditations. Of the Things that we may doubt, Of the Nature of the Human mind, Of God: that He exist, Of Truth and Error. Of the Essens of Material Things, Of the Existencs of Material Things, and of the Real Distinction between the MInd and the Body of Man. However many scientist were opposed of my idea. But my most comprehensive works was Principia Philosphiae. It was publilished in Amsterdam in 1644, There were four parts. The Principles of Human Knowledge, of Material Things, Of the Visble World and The Earth. They attempted to put the whole universe on a mathematical foundation reducing the study of one of the mechanics. Also in the year 1644 they published my Meditations. I then visited France and returned in 1637.
